During my first trip to Pakistan, I became fascinated by the decorated buses and their windows. These windows offered small frames through which fragments of everyday life could be seen beyond the political narratives that often dominate how the country is perceived.
I began this project in 2009 and completed it in 2011 during my second trip to Karachi while in residence at Vasl Artists’ Association. Each work is a digital collage combining the image of a Pakistani bus window—framing passengers inside the bus—with the portrait of a Pakistani politician placed on the surface of the glass.
The project consists of twelve archival pigment prints (digital collage), each measuring 25 × 25 cm.
